THE SECOND COMING AND THE HOLY SPIRIT - PART 1
The coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament does not refer to the reincarnation of Jesus at a future time in Jerusalem. It refers to the Holy Spirit.
Many people are waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ to arrive in Jerusalem at a future date. The interesting thing is that the Bible never talks about Jesus Christ returning to Earth but rather returning into the hearts of man. In the Bible this is known as the Holy Spirit and is the reason Jesus died on the cross 2,000 years ago.
This thread will go through all the quotes that are connected to the second coming of Jesus Christ. It will show that the authors of the New Testament were never referring to the reappearance of Jesus in Jerusalem AFTER he rose again 2000 years ago. They were referring to Jesus Christ entering into your life and soul as the Holy Spirit, which is the bedrock of Christianity.
In 1 Thessalonians 5 in the New International Version, there is a reference to the coming of the Lord, which many futuristic teachers of the second coming use as proof:
1Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,
2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.- 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 (NIV)
It’s always good to understand the what, why, where and when the authors are referring to from the Bible. When reading these verses you see Paul was never talking about a futuristic second coming of Jesus, but rather the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in reference to the acceptance of the Holy Spirit:
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt
21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,
22 reject every kind of evil.
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.
27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.- 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-28 (NIV)
The reason I used the New International Version of the Bible first was to show that you can pick up any version of the Bible and still receive God’s words. As long as you understand what the author is trying to get across to their readers. But there has been a long history of altering Bible quotes throughout history that have been done to twist certain passages just slightly.
The Wycliffe Bible
The translating and altering of different Bibles throughout our history has been a major subject of controversy for Christians. It has even turned many people away for the Bible because they are confused about which book to read.
During the Reformation we saw many different translations of the Bible and it was to slightly change the wording of certain sentences to trick Christians into thinking there will be a futuristic second coming of Christ.
In my ORIGINS OF ZIONISM I describe how many protestants were pushing for the return of Israelites to the land of Palestine, which was known as British Israelism. Many of the these protestants translated different versions of the Bible to try and intertwine their Zionistic ideals into the Bible. One way they did this was to push the idea of the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem so then Christians would be tricked into thinking Zionism was a Biblical event.
For example lets look at 1 Thessalonians 4, which shows Apostle Paul talking about the Christians who were persecuted. I will show how these pro-Zionism translators altered the wording just slightly to convince other Christians there would be a second coming of Jesus after the Jews returned to Jerusalem:
NIV Bible:
13Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
14For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.”- 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 (NIV)
Notice the phrase “who are left UNTIL the coming of the Lord.” Well this is the New International Version, a very modern version of the Bible but if you look at the oldest English Bible, the Wycliffe Bible, which was completed in 1382 AD, it reads slightly different:
Wycliffe Bible:
13 For, brethren, we will not, that ye not know of men that die [Forsooth, brethren, we will not you to unknow of men sleeping, or dying], that ye be not sorrowful, as [and] others that have not hope.
14 For if we believe, that Jesus was dead, and rose again, so God shall lead with him them that be dead by Jesus [so and God shall lead with him them that slept, or died, by Jesus].
15 And we say this thing to you in the word of the Lord, that we that live, that be left in the coming of the Lord, shall not come before them that be dead. [Soothly this thing we say to you in the word of the Lord, that we that live, that be residue, or left, in the coming of the Lord, shall not come before them that slept, or died.]- Thessalonians 4:13-15 (Wycliffe)
“That be left IN the coming of the Lord”. What a difference!
There is no ‘Until’ but rather ‘In’ the coming of the Lord. This completely changes the whole structure and meaning of the sentence.
This proves that the meaning of ‘the coming of the Lord’ is when a person accepts Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit comes INTO them.
Here’s another example of altering the Bible to benefit the Zionists agenda. In Hebrew 9 of the English Standard Version (another modern version Bible) it shows a perfect quote of the second coming of Jesus:
ESV Bible:
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
- Hebrews 9:28 (ESV)
Just from reading this quote, it almost seems undeniable of the second coming of Jesus in Jerusalem. Lets see how the Wycliffe Bible reads:
Wycliffe Bible:
28 so Christ was offered once, to void the sins of many men [for to void, or do away, the sins of many men]; the second time he shall appear without sin to men that abide him into health.
- Hebrew 9:28 (Wycliffe)
Notice the comma location of the ESV Bible right after ‘will appear a second time,’. It was deliberately put there to separate it from the last part of the sentence, which explains what the author of Hebrews meant by the phrase.
If you read the entire chapter of Hebrews 9 ( highly recommend any Christian to do so ) you will see the author was explaining the difference between the Old and New Covenant and how much superior the New one is through Jesus Christ. With that in mind, verse 28 makes more sense as to what he was referring to.
The word, ‘the coming’ does not refer to the physical appearance of God, Jesus Christ or man in the Bible. The best representation of this is in 2 Thessalonians 2. In this Chapter Paul uses ‘the coming’ to describe a man who is full of the Holy Spirit and a man who has been taken over by Satan (the lawless one).
2 Thessalonians 2
Below I will break down the entire chapter of 2 Thessalonians 2 and show how Paul the Apostle used the phrase ‘the coming’. I will be using the International Standard Version (another modern Bible) and compare it to the Wycliffe to show the true definition of the word ‘coming’ in the Bible:
Lets overview verses 1-3:
ISV Bible:
1Now we ask you, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and our gathering together to him,
Wycliffe Bible:
1But, brethren, we pray you by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our congregation into the same coming [into the same thing],
Notice how the Wycliffe Bible uses the word ‘coming’ to describe the ‘present’ tense.
2 not to be so quickly upset or alarmed when someone claims that we said, either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come.
3 Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the rebellion takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed.
This chapter is so important because it describes what will happen to you when you receive the Holy Spirit, a crucial moment in any Christians life.
What Paul is saying is that don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking you have already received the Holy Spirit. He then goes on to describe the first event in a persons life when they receive it, which is that Satan will be revealed to you.
So you know you have received the Holy Spirit when you start noticing the abundance of evil that is in the world after you have accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior. God will bless you will clarity.
Lets overview verses 4-8:
4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of God and himself declares that he is God.
5 Don’t you remember that I repeatedly told you about these things when I was still with you?
ISV Bible:
6 You know what it is that is now holding him back, so that he will be revealed when his time comes.
Wycliffe Bible:
6 And now what withholdeth [And now what withholdeth him], ye know, that he be showed in his time.
I added two different version here because the ISV version doesn’t explain the verse clearly. What Paul was trying to say is that what is holding Satan back is that he will be revealed to anyone who receives the Holy Spirit.
7 For the secret of this lawlessness is already at work, but only until the person now holding it back gets out of the way.
8 Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy with the breath of his mouth, rendering him powerless by the manifestation of his coming.
Paul is explaining here how Satan functions, how he believes he is God and that he is always working behind the shadows. But Satan’s biggest fear is for someone to receive the Holy Spirit because then he will revealed and clearly exposed for that individual.
But the biggest line is verse 8 because it describes the moment someone receives the Holy Spirit: ‘The Lord will destroy [Satan] with the breath of his mouth’. Then it explains how Satan is now powerless because that person is now protected by the Holy Spirit [Jesus Christ’s coming].
Lets overview verses 9-12:
ISV Bible:
9 The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders,
Wycliffe Bible
9 him, whose coming is by the working of Satan, in all virtue, and signs, and great wonders, false, [him, whose coming is after the working of Satan, in all virtue, and signs, and great wonders, lying, or false,]
If you become wrapped up in a futuristic physical second coming of Jesus Christ, you will think this line is talking about the futuristic physical coming of the anti-christ. But as you can see it is explaining what happens to a person when Satan enters into them. The Wycliffe breaks down the wording, clearly showing that the word ‘coming’ means accepting.
10 and every type of evil to deceive those who are dying, those who refused to love the truth that would save them.
11 For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.
12 Then all who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned.
As you can see in verse 12, this entire section was talking about an unrighteous person and how Satan influences their heart and mind. If you don’t accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, Satan has every right to influence you in any way.
Lets overview verses 13-17:
13 At all times we are obligated to thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God chose you to be the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through faith in the truth.
As you can see in this verse Paul was addressing one of the first churches (the first fruits of salvation), the Thessalonians, which is important to remember while reading the Bible. Always put yourself in the minds of the writer during that time period. It helps to distinguish what the writer was actually speaking about.
14 With this purpose in mind, he called you through our proclamation of the gospel so that you would obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.
15 So then, brothers, stand firm, and cling to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.
16 May our Lord Jesus, the Messiah himself, and may God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good action and word.
As you can see Paul finishes 2 Thessalonians 2 with encouraging words talking about the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.
This entire chapter was giving specific examples of what happens to someone when they accept the coming of Jesus Christ / the Holy Spirit and when someone unknowingly accepts Satan by ignoring the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The book of 2 Thessalonians was addressing one of the seven churches of early Christianity so why would Paul be explaining a futuristic scenario of the second coming of Jesus Christ after the Jews returned to Jerusalem?
Even in 1 Thessalonians in the first chapter Paul uses the phrase ‘coming’ to represent its true meaning. Here’s the excerpt from the Wycliffe Bible:
10 and to abide his Son from heavens, whom he raised from death, the Lord Jesus, that delivered us from wrath to coming. [and for to abide his son from heavens, whom he raised from dead, Jesus, that delivered us from wrath to come.]
- 1 Thessalonians 1:10 (Wycliffe)
As you can see in the first chapter of Thessalonians we can see the meaning of the word ‘coming’ in the Bible. Jesus delivered us from wrath to coming, which I interpreted as Jesus delivered us from wrath, then into his coming.
When God deems an individual worthy, he will bless them with the Holy Spirit. That is why it’s so important to read entire books / chapters when reading the Bible and not just single quotes.
The Book of Matthew and the Coming of Jesus
Starting in Matthew 24 until the end of the Book of Mathew in chapter 28, there are many ‘second coming’ references that Zionists use as proof there will be a ‘second coming’ in Jerusalem.
Lets look at where this occurs in the English Standard Version of Mathew 24:
27For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,
39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.
42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.
44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.- Mathew 24: 27-44
As you can see there’s many symbolic words like Tribulation, Trumpet calls, generation will not pass away and the coming of the Son of Man / Lord. It’s easy to understand how many people can associate this with a futuristic second coming of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. But when reading these passages in the Bible, you have to remember Jesus Christ is still living and he hadn’t yet been crucified and died for the sins of the world.
Lets continue in the English Standard Version of Mathew 25:
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
More symbolic words occur here such as glorious throne and the gathering of nations.
Now lets see what Jesus said when he came back after being crucified and rose again in Mathew 28. I will be using the Wycliffe Bible because it clearly shows the definition of the ‘Coming of Jesus Christ’:
16 And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, into an hill, where Jesus had ordained to them [where Jesus had ordained them].
17 And they saw him, and worshipped; but some of them doubted.
18 And Jesus came nigh, and spake to them, and said, All power in heaven and in earth is given to me. [And Jesus coming to, spake to them, saying, All power is given to me, in heaven and in earth.]
19 Therefore go ye, and teach all folks, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost;
20 teaching them to keep all things, whatever things I have commanded to you; and lo! I am with you in all days, into the end of the world.
Amazing! The Wycliffe Bible uses the phrase ‘Jesus coming to’ to refer to Jesus AFTER he died on the cross and then goes on to say teach all the folks about Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost / Spirt.
This clearly shows that all those references to the Coming of the Lord / Son of man in the earlier chapters / verses of Matthew was in reference to the Holy Spirit that will spread across the world after Jesus makes his sacrifice for the sins of the world.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirits COMES upon you:
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,
11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
The Holy Spirit will flow living water from your heart when you COME to Jesus and drink:
37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.- John 7:37-39
The Holy Spirit COMES to bear witness:
26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
The Holy Spirit (the helper) will be sent to fellow Christians through Jesus Christ and will declare things that are to COME:
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
The Holy Spirit CAME upon Mary, the mother of Jesus:
34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
The Holy Spirit COMES from the Lord:
12 Since we have such a hope, we are very bold,
13 not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.
14 But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.
15 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts.
16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Now do you understand the significance of why Zionists are making Christians believe in a second coming of Jesus at the city of Jerusalem at a future time? It’s because when Christians read these quotes from the Bible they are blinded by a futuristic story rather than the beautiful truth and understanding of the Holy Spirit.
continued in PART 2 ….
I’ve wondered for a long time if the topics you addressed in this post were referring to past (to us) events. An evil one that can convince an entire ‘Catholic Church’ to hide the truth so the listeners actually are duped into worshiping him reveals his current power over the earth, but that power and time is finite according to God’s will. Jesus ascended after His resurrection and we are ensured He rules with His Father at His side. The Holy Spirit has immense power and has transformed millions of us to understand Jesus paid the price for our sins and the description of the Holy Spirit is such (as you aptly pointed out) that many of us have been duped for generations now to look to a 2nd coming. Lots to ponder, but it makes perfect sense when we consider the history of the evil one’s influence and Zionism. Much of what we’ve been taught has been manipulated and we must return to trusting in God alone. Faith in Him is eternal once we’ve been given sight through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is still our savior and mediator for us. God bless you for sharing your God-given gifts with us.🙏🙏
It came upon me like an epiphany in October 2016. Thank you
